Black Bear

Wyoming Black Bear | Medicine Bow

Description:  This outfitter offers high quality hunts for trophy black bear from our private ranch properties in and around the high country of the Medicine Bow Mountains of Wyoming. The Medicine Bow’s are home to a healthy population of big bears including a wide variety of color phases ranging from coal black or chocolate brown, to red, cinnamon and blonde. In the spring of the year, the average mature Rocky Mountain Black Bear will weigh between 250 and 350 pounds. However, hunters have taken big boars weighing in excess of 450 pounds, and hides squaring over seven feet.   The goal will be to harvest only large adult bears, therefore they limit their services to six hunters per year, insuring top quality hunting and personalized service. Through the years, our hunter’s success rates have averaged well over 75%, archery or rifle, on good mature bears.

Trophy bear hunting is done late in the afternoon and evenings over active, proven baits, that have been in the same strategic locations for many years. Spot and stalk hunting is also possible during the early morning hours. Spring is a wonderful time to enjoy Wyoming’s high country, with abundant wildflowers, lush green grasses, and a wide variety of wildlife to enjoy in a fresh new season. And thankfully, they have no black flies and very few mosquitoes to bother you. Their goal is to provide their spring bear hunters with a total vacation experience.

In addition to your bear hunt, enjoy unlimited varmint shooting, excellent fishing, ATV riding and shed antler hunting, you choose, it’s your vacation.

Accommodations:  Camp is a beautiful, 4500 sq. foot, rustic log lodge, with all the modern conveniences of home. Excellent all-you-can-eat, home-style meals are prepared and served by our full time, professional cooks.

Transportation/Getting there:  Detailed maps and directions will be provided to your hunt destination or meeting point. Hunters who choose to fly can pick from several nearby airports. Call for details.

Trophy Care, Meat Processing and Taxidermy

After a successful hunt your guide will expertly field dress and field cape your trophy for you. Meat processing is available locally. Processing fees vary from $100.00 for antelope or deer, up to $250.00 for elk, depending on the size/species of the animal and customer requests. If you do not wish to take your meat with you, arrangements can be made for people in need to receive it. However, under Wyoming state law, the hunter is still responsible to pay for the basic processing fees before donation.

Top quality taxidermy work is available locally. We recommend that hunters, particularly those that are flying out for their hunt, leave their trophies with our taxidermist to ensure the safe keeping of the cape and horns. After completion, the trophy mounts can then be shipped to the hunter in safe, sturdy crates. Taxidermy information, rates / fees available upon request, anytime.
