Description: The Jackman area has a large population of black bear, many reaching trophy size. In Maine, the average adult black bear runs between 150 and 200 pounds. At this destination their bear weights have been averaging 200 pounds, and every year they take a few over 300 pounds. The bear baiting is done in remote areas with no competition from the other outfitters. The Fall hunt starts the end of August and goes into September and is limited to a small group of hunters. The hunting stands will accommodate rifle, bow, muzzle-loader, and handgun.
Bear hunting is very relaxing. Being that you hunt only late afternoon into the evening, you the hunter have all morning to play. Many hunters bring their spouses for some nice R & R, and this is a great place to bring families, too.
September is a nice time of year. Early in the month the weather can be quite nice with day time temps averaging around 70 to 75 degrees. The heated pool is still up and going as well as the hot tubs. Later in the season, it is cooler, and you’ll see the gorgeous foliage around the third week of September.
Families get their own private cabin and young hunters are welcome.
Accommodations: With front porch ambiance, these beautiful cabins set in the side of a mountain on a quiet road, have all the modern conveniences. They are located just 1 & 1/2 miles from the center of town, but far enough out of town to be peaceful and secluded
Seven cozy 2 & 3 bedroom cabins with full size kitchens, bathrooms, oil heat, air conditioning, ceramic tile & carpeted floors and TV's with DVD players. Cabins are well appointed with comfortable linens, fresh towels, wireless interent and satellite tv, and all of the amenities of home.
During the summer, there are 3 large outdoor fire places, picnic tables, horseshoe pit and volleyball area. THREE HOT TUBS (one hot tub is private at the luxury cabin - Red Fox Haven) and a large HEATED SWIMMING POOL. Yes, heated to a nice 81 degrees. Hot tubs are open (except luxury cabin - Red Fox Haven - which is open year round) late May to Late October. Pool is open early June to Late September.
Transportation/Getting there: Hunts can choose to drive or fly to camp. The lodge is located on the outskirts of Jackman, ME and is just 15 miles from the border of Quebec.
Hunters who choose to fly will fly to Augusta, ME, rent a vehicle and drive approximately 2 hours to the lodge.
