Caribou

Trophy Woodland Caribou | Newfoundland

Description:  Woodland caribou hunting is a unique experience. In fact, Newfoundland is the only place in the world where this magnificent species can be legally harvested. Add a superb location to the fact that the herd does not have a large migration pattern and you have the right conditions for a successful trophy hunt! These conditions have helped to preserve a near perfect success rate over the years. The area has its share of caribou in both the Boone and Crockett and Pope and Young record books.

While the rifle hunting season does not start until the second week of September, archery hunting precedes it by two weeks and continues through the regular season, allowing for prime hunting and excellent stalking.

Hunts take place in a remote backcountry location, which is 650 meters above sea level high. These hunts are fly-in by helicopter from Deer Lake to the lodge located on Rainy Lake.

Accommodations:  There are two 34x20 ft cabins. Clients have their own cabin with two rooms with two hunters per room. The other cabin is where the cook and guides stay and where the kitchen, bathroom and shower is located. All cabins are heated with wood stoves, there is generated electricity and hot and cold running water.

Transportation/Getting there:  Newfoundland Canada is the most easterly province of Canada and we are a island in the North Atlantic. This destination is located on the West Coast of the Island and the hunting lodge is located high on a plateau above the biggest lake in Newfoundland called "Grand Lake."

If driving to Newfoundland you will cross the boarder at Houlton Maine and then drive through New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. North Sydney, NS is were you will find Marine Atlantic which offers ferry service to the island twice each day.

If flying then most likely you will go through Toronto, Canada and then to Deer Lake Newfoundland. For clients that fly there is a ground transportation shipping service for the meat to be shipped back to the USA.
